WELCOME to the Ashford Town Court
A court clerk will generally be available to help you by calling the court on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings between 9 AM and Noon and on Thursday afternoons between 12:00 Noon - 6 PM.  The court convenes every Thursday at 6 PM unless it is a nationally recognized holiday.  Please remember that court personnel are prohibited by law from providing you with any legal advice.  We will attempt to guide you through the process; but if you have legal concerns, you should seek the advice of counsel.

Traffic Tickets
If you have received a traffic ticket in the Town of Ashford, you may appear on the date indicated in the left bottom portion of the ticket or you may plea by mail by following the instructions printed on the right-hand side of the ticket.

If you plead "guilty", the Judge will assess any fine or other state mandated surcharge and you will receive a fine notice by return mail indicating how much you are to pay.

If you return a plea of "not guilty", you will receive a notice that your case was adjourned to a new date and you will be provided with a letter further explaining your options.  Please make sure the address information that you are providing is up-to-date and accurate.

Please be advised that your failure to respond appropriately will result in the suspension of your driver's license and may result in a warrant for your arrest.  This is to include the residents of other states and Canada.  Beware that often your home state will suspend your driver's license in that state for failure to appear or failure to pay your traffic tickets in this state.

Your "fine notice" will explain several ways to pay.  You may stop in to the court during any of our above-stated business hours, or you may mail it to the court.  We DO NOT accept any personal checks.  You may pay in cash, certified check or money order, or by credit card (Visa or Mastercard).  Please be advised that a 2.99% service fee will be assessed by the service provider on all credit card payments.  Neither the Town of Ashford nor the Ashford Town Court receive any of this money.

When paying by mail, please be sure that your name and or case number are clearly listed in the correspondence so that you are sure of receiving credit for the payment.  You are also asked to include a stamped, self-addressed envelope and a receipt will promptly be returned to you.

Civil Cases
All civil cases are scheduled for trial when they are filed.  The best way to file a civil case is to stop into the court during any of our above-stated business hours so that we can accept the paperwork, filing fee, and schedule a hearing date.
